Yesterday’s win over bottom club Stevenage marked the start of three vital consecutive home games for Leyton Orient.

Early goals from Moses Odubajo and Chris Dagnall clinched the victory, and it was a welcome return to winning ways after four games without a victory.

The win lifted the O’s back into League One’s automatic promotion places and manager Russell Slade was satisfied with the improved display.

He said: “It was a solid team performance, especially in the first half where we dominated.

“Fair play to Stevenage, they came back in the second half, but we were positive, played with a lot of energy and created a lot of openings.

“Stevenage are very physical, which you have to deal with, but we managed to keep the ball out of the back of the net.”

Odubajo and Dagnall struck early to make it an ultimately comfortable evening for the O’s.

But it was not all one-way traffic. Orient goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic was forced into making excellent saves from former O’s stalwart Jimmy Smith and substitute Michael Doughty.

The Bosnian has conceded one goal from open play in his six games for the club, and Slade said: “Eldin deserves a special mention because he made some great saves.

“He’s a commanding presence, that’s why I wanted to bring him back. If he adds to our defence then that’s great.”

The manager also reserved some credit for goalscorer Dagnall.

The striker scored his first goal at Brisbane Road for the club at the fourth time of asking.

Slade added: “I think Chris has done really well since he’s been here.

“I’m delighted he’s got his goal at home.”
