Ilford bowed out of this years FA Cup at the first hurdle yesterday (Sunday) with a 2-1 home defeat by Eastern Counties League side Saffron Walden Town.

Fabian Brown scored Foxes only goal – his second in two matches – as the Cricklefield-side lost out on the £1,500 prize for the winners.

Manager Allan Fenn said: “We played poorly, the players know that and I know that.To be honest, the games have come too early for us. I’d like to be starting the season now.

“We really are a work in progress,” he added. The players have only known each other for two to three weeks.”

The manager is always looking to boost his squad: “I’ve got a few players coming down for training on Thursday night, so we’ll have a look at them,” he said.

In the meantime, the Foxes have a Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy match against fellow Essex Senior League opposition Haringey Borough FC at Coles Park Stadium tomorrow night (Tuesday).
