Redbridge manager Dave Ross was delighted following the Motormen’s superb comeback to see off a strong Needham Market side at Oakside.
Abs Thompson’s delightful curling effort cancelled out Kemal Izzet’s opener to spark the comeback just after half-time, before Ben Bradbury supplied the winner for Redbridge with just 10 minutes remaining.
Ross was without top scorer Daniel Charge for the visit of an unbeaten Needham Market side in the Ryman Division One North, but Emiel Aiken stepped in upfront and was Ross’s Man of the Match.
‘It proves how strong our squad is when we can come up against a side who are one of the favourites for the league and we deserved the three points,” said Ross. “I don’t think anyone would deny us that.’
‘It was especially pleasing today, missing Daniel Charge was a big blow for us, but we put Emiel upfront and he was probably our man of the match today, he was excellent, caused them a lot of problems.’
‘I watched them at Aveley on Monday and I knew it would be a very hard game today, especially with some key players missing.’
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s match against another top three side in Maldon & Tiptree, Ross was confident of picking up more points, ‘We’ve got Maldon & Tiptree on Tuesday – another very good side. If we perform as well as we did today I’m sure that we can come away with something on Tuesday.’
