Ross hopes for improved form

Redbridge joint-manager Dave Ross prepares his side to face Heybridge Swifts in Ryman One North tonight (Tuesday) and is hoping they can continue to improve with each passing match.

The Motormen make the trip to Scraley Road for their second league game of the season, after opening their campaign with a 3-1 loss at home to Harlow Town on Saturday.

Ross is expecting another tough match this evening, but appreciates Swifts are rebuilding like his own side this season, saying: “It is another tough one, but Heybridge are also a side that are going through a transition, like us.

“I still think they will get it together and have another good season. It will be a hard game, but I hope we can improve on our encouraging performance against Harlow.

“It is a lovely pitch at Heybridge and it will be a really good game so I am looking forward to it. I haven’t really had a chance to see them during pre-season so we will go out there and focus on us.

“No one expected us to get much on Saturday (against Harlow), but obviously we did expect to because we have confidence in our players. It is the same against Heybridge and we know our players will get better as the season progresses.”

With Redbridge going through a period of change, Ross is hoping the new additions can continue to gel.

The joint boss also discussed how difficult it can be without time to train, with various midweek fixtures scheduled earlier this season to combat the poor weather during the winter months which has caused numerous postponements in the past few seasons.

Ross added: “We need to carry on working in training and knitting things together. If you have to play and play it doesn’t allow time to work on things.

“For the league it is obviously the right thing to stop the backlog of fixtures we have and it is great on one hand, but detrimental on the other.

“A few teams are in a similar position where they are rebuilding. It will take some time to get the squad playing the way we want them to and it will take time for them to understand how each other play.

“We only have four or five players in our 18 from last season’s squad because they have moved on for financial reasons so we are rebuilding, but we have to get on with it.”
