Redbridge bounced back from their disappointment at Dereham to record their first win of the new season at Oakside last night.

Motormen had slumped to a 4-0 defeat in Norfolk at the weekend, to find themselves with just one point from a possible nine.

But they came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Ramblers, who ended the game with 10 men after L’Heureux Menga was sent off in the 69th minute.

Only 10 minutes had been played when Aaron Scott and the home side doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Daniel Charge netted.

Liam Burgess hit back for Burnham from the penalty spot midway through the first half, but Mark Nougher restored Redbridge’s two-goal cushion on 54 minutes.

Motormen’s joy was shortlived as Burgess bagged his second goal of the night a minute later, but Patrick Damali made it 4-2 just past the hour mark.

Menga was given his marching orders soon after but the visitors had the last word with a 90th-minute consolation from Isaac Aubynn.

Redbridge will look to build on their first league win when they visit Soham Town on Saturday.

Redbridge: Parker, Murphy, Adelekna, Scott (L Thomas 48), T Thomas, Nougher, J Gent (Ibe 77), Damali, Charge, Moses, Chambers. Unused subs: S Gent, Smith, Wallace.

Barkingside were brought back down to earth by defeat against Cray Wanderers at Bromley.

Buzzing from their 4-2 home win over Brentwood at the weekend, Matt Frew’s men took the lead after 10 minutes as John Bricknell struck when Steve Carvell’s shot was blocked.

Ian Daly put two chances wide for the hosts before a Cesc Fakinos free-kick was flicked on and Pat O’Connor converted from close range on 37 minutes.

Side almost regained the lead before the break when Calvin Poku’s angled shot flew across goal and was deflected behind.

And Poku missed another chance after the restart, before Chris Clark was tested by Dan Stubbs at the other end.

Poku forced a good save from Nick Taylor before Daly put Cray ahead just past the hour.

But Side looked to have secured a point five minutes from time, after Richard Oxby had fired a good chance wide, when Carvell converted Chris Taylor’s pass.

Cray were back in front a minute later, though, as poor marking allowed Daly to grab his second goal of the night.

And after Poku hit a post and forced a save from Taylor, the home side sealed the points with a fourth goal in the last minute as Stubbs picked out O’Connor to chip Clark.

Barkingside: Clark, Hayes, Callaway, Ellul, Ellis (Taylor 78), Oxby, Polious, Bricknell (Fontaine 69), Carvell, Gulfer, Poku. Unused subs: Onireti, Georgiou, Pitman.
