Ryman One North: Maldon & Tiptree 2 Redbridge 1
Goals from Danny Johnson and Kye Ruel saw Redbridge defeated at Maldon & Tiptree last night.
In front of a crowd of 51, the Motormen fell behind with nine minutes on the clock when Johnson shot low past goalkeeper Dean Driscoll.
Maldon, managed by former Redbridge boss Terry Spillane, saw Ben Smith cautioned on 27 minutes, and that proved to be one of nine yellow cards dished out on the night, seven coming the way of the hosts.
Former Maldon man Ben Bradbury and Abs Thompson were both cautioned for the visitors and though joint bosses Ricky Eaton and Dave Ross tried to change their fortunes with Harry Cook, Patrick Damali and Gary Henty all coming on for the Motormen, the visitors failed to find an equaliser.
And 11 minutes from time Ruel made sure of the three points for Maldon, though the hosts ended the game with 10 men after Spencer Harrison was sent off for a second bookable offence in the final minute.
And the Motormen did score a late penalty, through Bradbury to pull one back, but it proved to be in vain.
Redbridge will be hoping for better luck when they host Erith & Belvedere at Oakside on Thursday night.
It wasn’t a happy hunting ground for the Deres on Monday night, as they lost out 3-0 against tenants Barkingside.
Redbridge: Driscoll, Bansende, Smith, Good, L Thomas, Thompson (Henty 64), Bradbury, Carlile (Damali 85), Thompson, Francis, Aiken (Cook 64).
Unused substitute: T Thomas.
