Motormen host Grays at Oakside

Redbridge will look to rebound quickly as they play host to high-flying Grays in Ryman Division One North tonight (7.45pm).

Motormen suffered another huge blow in their fight for survival on Saturday, as Romford ran out 5-0 winners at Oakside.

Kurt Smith put the visitors in front midway through the first half as debutant Lamar Lemonious misjudged a through ball from Tom Richardson.

Stephen Ikewlumo’s challenge on Richardson led to a penalty soon after, with the Romford player picking himself up to net from the spot.

Robbie Rees went close to a reply from fully 45 yards, denied by Atu Ngoy’s save, before Sam Holloway was booked for a foul on Richardson and the resulting Joe Oates free-kick was spilled by Dean Neill for Richardson to tuck home Romford’s third.

Redbridge worked hard after the restart, with Charlie Rolls and Jacob Cleaver impressing once again.

Lemonious saw an effort from a corner saved by Ngoy before co-manager Steve Portway brought himself off the bench late on against one of his former clubs.

Portway replaced 16-year-old debutant Shala Gabriel, who had worked tirelessly, and enjoyed some banter with the Boro supporters.

But his side conceded twice more late on, with Tyler Christian-Laws netting a brace to give the final scoreline further gloss for Romford.

Neighbours Ilford also suffered on home turf, going down 3-1 against Soham Town Rangers, to remain at the bottom of the table.

Luke Stanley put Soham ahead, but Daniel Crowie levelled for the Foxes early in the second half.

Paul Oshin was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence on 55 minutes, which led to a successful penalty from Soham’s Buster Harradine.

But Warren Mfula hit a post for the ten-men Foxes before Michael Simpson sealed the points for the visitors.
