Redbridge manager Steve Portway believes it will be highly unlikely that his side are in action against Ryman One North leaders Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday.

Redbridge co-manager Steve Portway admits he is “gutted” to have seen three games postponed in seven days, writes Kirk Blows.

The Motormen were supposed to visit fellow strugglers Ilford last Wednesday before entertaining Thamesmead Town and Grays Athletic on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.

However, all three games were called off due to snow and the freezing conditions which have gripped the UK in the past week and Portway was extremely disappointed.

He said: “I’m gutted. I’m one of those guys who can’t wait to get up and go, so it’s very disappointing.

“Obviously there’s no way these games could have been played, but it’s shocking really.”

Redbridge are scheduled to travel to Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday, but Portway expects that game to also become a victim of the weather.

He said: “There are rumours that the game will probably be off.

“The problem is that once the snow goes, a pitch needs a week to dry out. So I’d be very surprised if we played.”

But should the game surprisingly get the green light, Portway knows his men could not face a tougher task against the runaway Ryman Division One North leaders.

Maldon are managed by the former Redbridge boss Terry Spillane, who took many of his former players with him to the Wallace Binder ground.

And Portway made no effort to disguise the size of the task facing his men.

He added: “It’s our hardest game of the season. Maldon are not up there for no reason.

“They have players who know how to play football.

“I know a few of their players and they know how to win.”
