Ilford punished by Abbey

Grays 3 Redbridge 0

Jared Small and Jeff Hammond were among the goals against their former club as Motormen returned empty-handed from Rush Green in Ryman Division One North.

The visitors fell behind on 10 minutes when Joao Carlos was fouled by Shane Lemard and Danny Bunce beat Dean Neil from the penalty spot.

Jacob Cleaver’s shot failed to seriously threaten Lamaar Johnson in the Grays goal before the home side doubled their lead on 21 minutes.

Bunce whipped in a cross and Small, who played for Redbridge in 2007-08, glanced a header past Neil.

Hammond was denied by a brave save from Neil, before Lemard deflected a Carlos cross against the crossbar.

But Grays went 3-0 up early in the second half when Hammond, who netted four goals for Harlow against Redbridge in November, turned Nikki Beale and fired inside the near post.

Carlos saw his 30-yard effort come back off a post, while Antony McDonald and Sam Holloway saw hopes of a Redbridge consolation come to nothing as they sent efforts wide.

Motormen will look to bounce back when they host Thamesmead at Oakside on Tuesday.

Ilford 1 Waltham Abbey 4

Ilford returned to the bottom of the Ryman One North table after ending up well beaten at Cricklefield Stadium.

Denied victory in midweek, after Cheshunt netted in the sixth minute of injury time, Foxes slipped below Ware and into the basement due to their inferior goal difference.

James Peagram netted twice for visiting Abbey, who had beaten Southend to seal an Essex Senior Cup semi-final spot in midweek, and Dean Green and Kieran Ogunkoya also found the back of the net.
