Redbridge extend unbeaten run under new boss.

TWO successive comebacks have seen Redbridge maintain their unbeaten league run under caretaker-boss Jody Brown, but he believes there is more to come.

Brown has masterminded three league wins against Thamesmead Town, Heybridge Swifts and Ware since he took over following Kris Taylor’s resignation.

His side were 2-0 down against Heybridge, before coming back to win 3-2, courtesy of Kevin McLeod’s brace and Kevin Coyle’s strike.

Only three days later they were 1-0 down against Ware before McLeod struck again and Alex O’Leary’s 88th minute strike sealed yet another three points, but Brown believes they were lucky just to get Tuesday’s game on.

“The referee had an inspection five minutes before the game and it didn’t look good,” he said.

“But he decided it’d be okay to play and fortunately we got the win. We were down on numbers, but the spirit and fight the boys have shown in the comebacks has been great.

“The depth in the squad is better than I first thought, but I still feel we haven’t performed to our best.

“Once the players have got used to the way we want them to play, and the new ones have settled in, the performances will hopefully improve.

“If we had been beating teams by three or four goals then we would be setting the league alight, but with the victories there is a lot of improvement to come.”

The Motormen boss brought in striker Jordan Pavett, but the youngster has since earned a professional contract with Swindon Town after winning the nationwide ‘Win a Pro Contract’ competition.

The 19-year-old had joined Brown at Redbridge, after he coached the youngster at Colchester United and although he was unable to make a first team appearance for the Oakside outfit, Brown believes he has the potential to deliver for Danny Wilson’s men.

“I was disappointed to not be able to use him, but that was the way the fixtures panned out,” he said.

“It was clear from my time at Colchester with him that he has the potential and he has the attributes to play at that level.”

Brown will hope Redbridge continue the run when they host Enfield Town at the weekend and then face Julian Dicks’ Grays Athletic at home on Tuesday, although it remains to be seen whether the Oakside pitch would be able to cope with two games in quick succession after a recent run of postponements.

“It all depends on the pitch as to whether we play the two games,” he said.

“But in its present condition if it gets any more rain than it looks very doubtful.”
