Redbridge may have been playing for just pride for these last few weeks, but joint boss Dave Ross feels the performance levels have still been good.
The Motormen enjoyed a disappointing Easter weekend results-wise, with narrow defeats at Thurrock (2-1) and at home to VCD Athletic (1-0) on Saturday and Easter Monday respectively – both who are fighting for promotion out of Division One North.
And though both games have ended in losses, Ross has been proud of his side on both occasions, with youngsters like Charlie Parrish, Chris Roberts and James Dobson given their chance to shine.
“Considering we are just going out there playing for pride, we have given two good teams a decent game,” said Ross.
“They were both desperate for the wins to keep alive their promotion hopes.
“Against Thurrock we went 2-0 down and one of the goals was clearly offside and not given by the officials.
“The Thurrock bench even came over and apologised to us for it, but we came out in the second half and gave a good account of ourselves.
“With all the fixtures we’ve had, some of the youngsters have come in and I have been impressed with them.”
Daniel Francis hit the post for the Oakside outfit in the VCD loss with the score goalless.
Abs Thompson fluffed the rebound wide as well, much to Ross’ disappointment, but he was pleased that his side pushed the title challengers all the way.
“If that goes in it is altogether different, but VCD knew they had been in the game at the end,” added Ross.
“At this stage all you can ask for is effort from the players and they have given us that in abundance.”
The Motormen’s final game this weekend comes up against a Heybridge Swifts side already certain of a play-off spot.
But Swifts, managed by former Redbridge manager Jody Brown, need a win to make sure of a home advantage.
“They’ll want to keep the momentum going because they have been on a good run of late,” he added.
“They need the win as well to make sure of a home play-off, which is a big advantage, but we’ll go there with the strongest squad available and hopefully give them a good game.”
