Late winner delights Barking boss O’Shea

Sense of relief for Barking manager Mick O’Shea as he sees his side score twice late on to secure victory over Haringey & Waltham Development.

Barking boss Mick O’Shea admitted a sense of “relief” after his side snatched two late goals to return to winning ways on Tuesday evening.

The Blues suffered their first defeat in 12 games under O’Shea when beaten 2-1 by Ryman One North side Grays Athletic in the Essex Senior Cup last week and lost by the same margin at home to London APSA on Saturday.

So O’Shea was naturally delighted after Jonathan Mogege and Dumebi GB-Dumaka scored in the final two minutes against Haringey, having seen Theo Ola’s seventh-minute opener wiped out by Tony Cookey just before the half-hour mark.

The win lifted Barking to sixth in the Essex Senior League table.

And a relieved O’Shea said: “We left it late, but it was only a matter of time with the amount of possession and chances we had.

“I was always confident we’d get the win and it’s a relief to see us get back to winning ways after the previous two games.”

O’Shea was particularly disappointed with the 2-1 defeat to London APSA, with his side failing to build on Scott Walsh’s 18th-minute goal and falling to two second-half strikes by Samson Ogunwole.

He said: “We could easily have been three or four goals up at half-time.

“But we didn’t kill them off and ultimately paid the price for that.

“We’re not in the charity business, we’re in business of winning football games and I wanted us to kill off the opposition.”

Barking have a free weekend, but their London Senior Cup fourth-round tie at home to AFC Wimbledon has been scheduled for February 12.
