Hornchurch stage testimonial for former player
Former Dagenham & Redbridge and Hornchurch midfielder Mark Janney will roll back the years at his testimonial on Sunday.
A Daggers Legends XI are taking on a Hornchurch Legends XI at Bridge Avenue (2pm), including a host of Janney’s team-mates from down the years.
Entry is £5 for adults and £2 for children and Janney said: “After I was forced to retire due to a ruptured hamstring about two and a half years ago, (Hornchurch chairman) Colin McBride offered to give me a testimonial.
“I decided it would be nice to get together a bunch of former team-mates from the clubs I spent the majority of my career at, Dagenham & Redbridge, Thurrock and Hornchurch.
“I have many great memories that these players shared with me, most notable are the FA Cup matches with the Daggers against the likes of Lincoln, Exeter and Premier League Charlton and Ipswich.
“Winning promotion to the Conference and subsequently losing out on promotion via goal difference, then a golden goal will also stay with me forever, unfortunately in the Boston case!
“Winning an England semi pro cap in 2003 was also a very proud moment.
“The magic of the FA Cup followed me to Hormchurch where I managed to win ‘The Golden Boot’ in the 2006/07 competition, scoring eight goals. “Winning promotion and The Essex Senior Cup in our first season at the Urchins was also a real highlight.
“I was very lucky to have, what I consider, a very good non league career and i’d be delighted if you would join me, and a lot of the players that helped me achieve it, for a nice trip down memory lane!”
