Foxes gear up for Waltham Abbey and Needham Market clashes

Ilford manager Kevin Lucas believes his side can pick up points at home to Waltham Abbey on Saturday and at Needham Market on Tuesday.

The Foxes were left feeling “sick” after allowing Cheshunt to score a stoppage-time equaliser in the 3-3 draw at Cricklefield on Wednesday.

But their fourth point in three games at least allowed Ilford to move off the bottom of the Ryman One North table.

Waltham Abbey sit just three places above Ilford, while mid-table Needham Market have yet to win at home this season.

And Lucas insists his men can build up some momentum in the next two games.

He said: “We’ve got to look on the game against Waltham Abbey as being winnable.

“They have played fewer games than most other teams but why shouldn’t we take points against them?

“Everyone was banging on about us not winning at home until recently, but Needham remain the last team not to have won at home.

“Needham will be thinking that our game gives them a great chance of breaking their duck at home if they don’t beat Tilbury on Saturday.

“So we’ve got to have the right attitude and take the game to them.”

Ilford, Redbridge and Ware have all occupied the bottom spot in the table in recent weeks.

But Lucas believes that fourth-bottom Harlow – who were recently hit with a 10-point deduction – are unlikely to be dragged into trouble.

He said: “They have got money and have a great set-up, so I think they will be fine.

“But the next couple of games will show whether they can be pulled into the battle at the bottom.

“All three of the sides at the bottom have suddenly started to pick up points.

“So if anybody does start to falter, another club could be dragged into trouble.”

Regular keeper Dan Mbaku is set to return against Waltham Abbey after being unavailable for the Cheshunt game.
