Foxes focusing on new campaign
New Ilford manager Allan Fenn is looking to rebuild the club in a bid to bring success back to Cricklefield.
Last season proved a dismal one for the Foxes, who were 16th in the Essex Senior League with only nine wins in 38 games.
Fenn replacess Martin Haywood, having led Ilford to promotion during his last spell in charge, and aims to get the side back to winning ways.
“We are building from scratch and that is the problem we have,” said Fenn.
“We have good experienced players and some great youth coming over, so it is about blending that together.”
Fenn is keen to make an impact on the league in his first season and has set his sights high for the upcoming campaign.
“I want to finish in the top six,” he added.
“It is very difficult to build a new side and finish high up the table; we know it is going to be tough.”
With pre-season training underway, Ilford get their first taste of action with a friendly on July 12.
“Our first friendly is against Hinton and after that we play Redbridge, my old club,” said Fenn.
“The past is the past and I am concentrating on Ilford now.
“Our goal with the friendly games will be about fitness, building relationships on and off the pitch and creating camaraderie within the team.”
Fenn knows he has a tough task on his hands with limited resources at his disposal.
“We want to generate income,” he said. “Once we have some income we can start to bring in new players.
“The hardest thing (with Ilford) has been building the infrastructure of the club.
“It has gone well so far though, we have new kits, the ground is looking good and the team is coming together.”
