Barkingside manager Matt Frew unhappy as his side concede twice to draw 2-2 with Sawbridgeworth Town last Saturday.
Barkingside manager Matt Frew admitted “had a few things to say” to his players after the final whistle at Sawbridgeworth Town on Saturday despite admitting the 2-2 draw was “probably a fair result”.
Frew’s men threw away a two-goal lead – secured through first-half goals by Richard Oxby and Gavin Toussant – and allowed the home side to level deep into stoppage time.
And the manager was understandably annoyed to see two points go begging – after Mitchell Das and James Solkhom struck for the Sawbridgeworth – after a disappointing second-half display.
Frew said: “In the first half we couldn’t put a foot wrong and the players did everything that was asked of them.
“But I said at half-time that the next goal would define the game.
“The home side nicked it and after that it was a case of holding on because we just didn’t play in the second half.
“We rode our luck a bit and I thought we’d done enough to get the three points, but they managed to equalise in the 94th minute.
“It was probably a fair result, but it’s never nice when you concede so late and I had a few things to say to the players because I wasn’t happy.
“Let’s just say I got my point across!”
The result left Barkingside seventh in the Essex Senior League table and Frew believes his team should be doing better against certain sides.
He said: “We need to be beating these teams if we want to be at the top of this league, but we continue to drop points against them.
“It seems that some of the boys think they don’t need to properly turn up against these teams.
“Maybe I need to look at changing the personnel for some of these games and play the youngsters who feel they have a bit more to prove.”
Barkingside are at home to third-bottom Stansted on Saturday before entertaining bottom outfit Sporting Bengal United in the quarter-final of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy on Monday.
Frew added: “If we play to our full capability for 90 minutes I don’t think anybody can live with us.
“But it depends on whether we can be bothered to turn up.
“At this point I’ll take any kind of win in these two games.”
