Barkingside boss Matt Frew hopes of six points from Barking and Eton Manor fixtures.

Barkingside manager Matt Frew has set his players a six-point target from Saturday’s trip to Barking and the visit of Eton Manor on Monday evening.

The Oakside outfit ended the week in sixth place in the Essex Senior League, seven points behind leaders Great Wakering Rovers with two games in hand.

And although Frew expects two testing games against Barking and Eton Manor, he believes his team needs maximum points to really put pressure on the leaders.

Frew said: “I’m looking for six points from these two games.

“I know we’re facing two tough teams, but they are two results we could do with.

“There’s a two-week break over the Christmas period and I want us to get as many points on the board as possible before then.

“So I do want maximum points from these two games.”

Barkingside head to Mayesbrook Park on Saturday knowing that Barking will want to avenge their recent 4-2 aggregate defeat in the quarter-finals of the Essex Senior League Cup.

Frew’s men won 3-1 at Mayesbrook Park in October in what proved to be Alan Dickens’ last game as Barking boss before being succeeded by Mick O’Shea.

Barking have since won all four league games, so Frew knows the opposition are improving.

He said: “It’s another day, another game.

“Barking have a lot of younger players now and we expect them to be looking to get back at us after what happened in the cup.

“It will be a battle but we’re looking forward to it.”

Barkingside are keen to return to action after seeing Saturday’s home clash against Great Wakering Rovers postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Frew added: “Our pitch hasn’t been handling water well this season. It was disappointing because it might have been a good time to play Great Wakering.

“I’m also a bit concerned about a possible fixture pile-up, because it makes it much tougher when you’re playing twice a week.”
