Stevens strike earns share of the spoils
Ilford manager Alan Fenn could not hide his disappointment at last night’s (Wednesday’s) draw against Basildon United at Gardiners Close.
Ilford grabbed the lead eight minutes before the interval when Fabian Brown netted, but Basildon struck back twice before the break through Jimmy Cox on 43 minutes and then Mike Finneran on 45 minutes to give the home side the half-time lead.
“I’m seriously disappointed,”said Fenn after the match, “we were the better side throughout the game. We missed a sitter after we scored which would have taken us two up.
“Fabian Brown scored a great header, but then poor defending let us down and we allowed them to hit back at us to take the lead before half time.”
Whatever the manager said in the dressing room during the interval did the trick though, as Chris Stevens levelled six minutes into the second half, his secong goal in as many matches, to grab a point for the Foxes.
“We must learn to take our chances, we should have won the game,” the manager said.
Both teams are in FA Cup action at the weekend, Basildon entertain Stanway Rovers while Ilford entertain Saffron Walden Town on Sunday.
