Redbridge suffered heartbreak in the FA Cup as they conceded with a minute of extra time remaining to lose at Sudbury, despite leading at half time.

The Motormen led the preliminary round replay thanks to goals from Daniel Chambers and Brian Moses, but with penalties looming, a 119th-minute goal from Kris Newby knocked them out.

After the first meeting on Saturday between the pair at Oakside had ended 1-1, Redbridge made the visit to Suffolk hoping to secure the £1,925 prize money.

And they made the perfect start when Chambers gave them the lead within just three minutes, firing in at the far post after losing his marker.

Moses nearly doubled the lead for Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s team, but he was brought down by Lawrence Yiga, and the Sudbury defender received a booking.

Midway through the first period and the hosts did level when Newby scored his first, heading home a corner from Michael Shinn.

That wasn’t the end of the scoring in the first half, though, at King’s Marsh as Moses scored his first goal for the visitors.

The Redbridge forward headed in following a corner to give his side a priceless lead at the break.

The home side pressed immediately after the interval with former Dagenham & Redbridge forward Jake Reed posing a constant threat for the Oakside outfit before Sudbury did eventually find an equaliser from another corner.

Craig Pope profitted, getting the final touch after the ball was swung in to level it up and leave both sides 22 minutes to find a winner in normal time.

That wasn’t forthcoming so the two contested extra time and Redbridge went close in the opening period, but couldn’t find a way past Archer.

Both teams pressed for the elusive fifth goal in the second period of extra time, but with penalties looming, the visitors were left heartbroken.

Shinn crossed from the right and at the far post Newby headed past Mark Parker to cruelly knock Motormen out.

Redbridge: Parker, Murphy, Adelekan, T.Thomas, Scott (L.Thomas 68), Nougher, J.Gent, Damali, Moses, S.Gent (Charge 68), Chambers (Wallace 87).

Ryman Division 1N

Wroxham 3 Barkingside 0

Barkingside suffered a third away defeat of the season as they were beaten by Wroxham in the Ryman One North, but only following an encouraging second half performance.

The Yachtsmen beat Matt Frew’s team after scoring twice in the first period through Jack Garrod and Christy Finch.

Remy Gordon added a third in injury time to add some late gloss to the scoreline, but Side’s second-half display would have pleased Frew, although he would have been frustrated with their inability to take their chances.

The defeat sees Barkingside slip one place to ninth in the table with 10 points from seven games.

Barkingside: Clark, Hayes, Callaway, Ellul, Leachman, Oxby, Fontaine (Taylor 71), Bricknell (Poku 79), Carvell (Jones 46), Gulfer, Francis.
