Motormen face Burnham Ramblers at Oakside tonight
Redbridge boss Dave Ross was not a happy man after seeing his side fall to their second defeat of the Ryman North campaign at a ruthless Dereham Town on Saturday, but they have a chance to put it right tonight at Oakside when they entertain Burnham Ramblers.
“I’m very, very disappointed,” he said. “we didn’t play well and got everything we deserved.”
“It’s not an excuse, but it didn’t help that we were delayed by traffic and arrived only 25 minutes before kick-off.”
“I’ve got four or five injuries, so once again that doesn’t help the cause,” added the manager.
The Motormen, in truth, never got out of first gear and were behind on 10 minutes to a Luke Tuttle free-kick.
Mark Nougher was doing his best to get Redbridge back in the game. The midfielder now in his third spell at the club linked-up well with Shane Wallace and Brian Moses before chipping over the bar from 20 yards.
Nine minutes later, and Dereham doubled their lead from the spot, when Vinny Murphy tripped Ryan Hawkins in the box.It could have been worse, though, as the home side missed another spot-kick just before the break.
Things went from bad to worse for Ross, when Leon Smith was sent-off a minute before the interval when he was adjudged to have elbowed Craig Bussens in an aerial-challenge.
Despite being a man down, the visitors gave their all in the second-half and only really tired in the final 20-25 minutes of the game, as Dereham compounded the misery to end the game 4-0 up.
Ross’ men have a chance to put things right tonight (Tuesday) when they entertain Burnham Ramblers in the league at Oakside.
The Motormen’s boss is expecting another hard game, though. “It will be a hard match tonight,” he said, “but we need to get something out of it.
“We need to be competitive and hopefully we can pick up the three points.”
With injuries to the likes of Patrick Demali, Danny Charge and Charlie Parish, it’s not been easy for the boss. “I’ll move things about a bit tonight, hopefully,” he said.
■ The draw for the First Round of the Robert Dyas League Cup has been made and Redbridge will travel to Avely on Monday October 6, 7.45pm kick-off.
