Ryman Div 1N: Barkingside 4 Brentwood 2
Chris Taylor’s quickfire brace lifted Barkingside to their second victory of the new Ryman One North season at Cricklefield Stadium.
Calvin Poku’s first-half double had put Matt Frew’s men on top, following their 1-0 win over Maldon in midweek.
But the visitors hit back after the restart to draw level, before substitute Taylor intervened to superb effect.
Dion Polious fired wide on nine minutes, before Poku put the home side ahead two minutes later.
Poku forced a save from the visiting keeper after combing well with Danny Hayes, but then collected Richard Oxby’s pass to double his side’s lead on 34 minutes.
But Martin Stokes replied for Brentwood from the penalty spot, three minutes into the second half, and Chris Clark had to save well from Jason Dobbs before Daryl Robson’s follow-up was blocked and a third effort was cleared off the line by Joe Ellul.
The visitors were back on level terms on 64 minutes, though, in bizarre circumstances when a long throw into the box was touched into his own net by keeper Clark.
But Barkingside boss Matt Frew sent Taylor on for John Bricknell with a quarter of an hour to go and the move paid off as the substitute headed home from a Matt Gulfer corner.
Taylor made sure with his second from another corner with fives minutes left to give Barkingside a massive boost ahead of their trip to Cray Wanderers on Tuesday.
Dereham 4 Redbridge 0
Motormen returned home empty-handed after a miserable trip to Norfolk.
Only 10 minutes had been played when Luke Tuttle netted the opening goal of the game for Dereham.
And Ryan Hawkins doubled Dereham’s lead from the penalty spot in the 19th minute to leave Motormen with a mountain to climb.
Tuttle increased the misery for the visitors with his second and Dereham’s third on 35 minutes.
And it got worse for Motormen on the stroke of half time as Leon Smith was given his marching orders.
Toby Hilliard netted Dereham’s fourth with 14 minutes remaining to send Motormen back down the A12 with their tails between their legs and only one point from nine so far, desperately in need of a lift against Burnham on Tuesday.
