FA Cup: Barkingside 5 Wivenhoe Town 0; Redbridge 1 Sudbury 1
Barkingside booked a place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a five-star display at Cricklefield.
But neighbours Redbridge face a replay at Sudbury after a stalemate at Oakside.
Only five minutes had been played when Lewis Francis put Barkingside ahead against their Eastern Counties League opponents, volleying home from Steve Carvell’s cross.
Matt Frew’s men doubled their lead on nine minutes when Matt Gulfer’s free-kick found Francis, who headed across goal for Dan Callaway to tap home.
The Dragons failed to seriously threaten Chris Clark’s goal and Barkingside went 3-0 up on 32 minutes when Carvell fired home after good work by Jason Fontaine on the left.
And Francis completed a superb first half for the hosts when claiming his second goal of the tie from a tight angle three minutes before the break, after Carvell had crossed from the left.
Joe Ellul and Carvell went close to further goals before half time, but Barkingside did not have long to wait for their fifth as Gulfer netted five minutes after the restart.
John Bricknell had blasted high and wide before Richard Oxby wasted another chance, but Bricknell then beat several defenders before teeing up Gulfer to smash into the roof of the net.
Frew turned to his bench, with a long Ryman One North trip to Wroxham coming up in midweek, and overworked Wivenhoe keeper Peter Haxell produced fine saves from Carvell, Bricknell and Fontaine as Barkingside sought more reward.
The visitors escaped further punishment but Barkingside had done more than enough to bank the £1,950 prize money and earn a trip to league rivals Waltham Abbey on September 13.
Barkingside: Clark, Hayes, Polious, Ellul, Callaway, Oxby, Fontaine, Bricknell, Carvell (Taylor 72), Gulfer (Leachman 59), Francis (Jones 59). Unused: Georgiou, Poku, Pitman.
*Redbridge head to Sudbury for a replay on Tuesday, after letting a lead slip in their home tie.
Only two minutes had been played when Joe Gent gave the Motormen the lead against their Ryman One North rivals.
But Sudbury hit back on 13 minutes through Lee Flynn and the two sides will meet again at xx for the right to host the winners of the FC Romania-Heybridge Swifts tie in the first qualifying round.
Redbridge: Parker, Murphy (Bansende 66), Adelekan, Scott, T Thomas, Nougher, J Gent, Damali, Moses, S Gent, Chambers. Unused subs: Wallace, L Thomas, Lemba, Mustafa, Spillman, Driscoll.
