Frew wants the same effort as second half at weekend

Barkingside manager Matt Frew is looking for his players to begin today’s (Monday’s) match at Heybridge Swifts the way the finished Saturday’s excellent 3-2 win against Cheshunt.

“We had a poor first half on Saturday, going 2-0 down, but the lads responded to my half-time talk and did the business in the second half,” he said.

“Today will be tough at Heybridge but, looking at the weather, the ball will be quick on their good surface, so it should be exciting too.

“They have a new manager in Keith Wilson who joined them from Burnham. I always found it tough to beat him in the league there, but I’m hoping for a change in fortunes with his new club.”

The change in routine with a three o’clock Monday kick-off shouldn’t be a problem said the boss.

“We usually have an evening kick-off for Monday or mid-week games, but I don’t think that will affect us,” he said.

“We’ve had just a day’s rest, but it’s the same for them too, so again I think we’ll cope.

“I have a full squad to choose from with only Calvin Poku away at the moment, and I think we equipped ourselves well without him at the weekend.

“It’s up to the 16 boys in the squad to impress me and keep their places, as I have players watching from the stands waiting for their chance.

“I asked the boys to be sensible after the win on Saturday as it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, and I’m sure they would have listened to that.”
