Barkingside began their new Ryman One North campaign with defeat at Bayliss Avenue.

Matt Frew’s men made a good start, with Calvin Poku giving them a 19th-minute lead.

But Sean Roberts got the home side back on level terms five minutes before the break and they claimed all three points thanks to a 77th-minute winner from Tyrus Gordon-Young.

Side’s day was made worse late on when goalkeeper Chris Clark was sent off and they will look to bounce back when they host Maldon at their new Cricklefield Stadium home tomorrow (Monday).

Thamesmead: Budd, Spencer, Probets, Hopkins, Butler, Hallam, Roberts, Glover, Gordon-Young (Carter 88), Zanone, Thompson (Ramadan 73).

Barkingside: Clark, Hayes, Callaway, Ellul, Ellis, Medine (Taylor 82), Polious (Oxby 76), Bricknell (Fontaine 63), Carvell, Gulfer, Poku.

Redbridge 1 Harlow 3

Redbridge went unrewarded against fancied Harlow in their season opener at Oakside.

The visitors broke the deadlock on 25 minutes as Shane Stamp netted and went 2-0 up thanks to an own goal soon after.

Bradley Hooper replied for Motormen 11 minutes into the second half to give them hope of salvaging something from the match.

But Harlow made sure of the points in the last minute as George Smith netted their third.

Redbridge will now look to open their account when they travel to Heybridge on Tuesday.

Redbridge: Parker, Bansende, Parish (Scott 79), T Thomas, L Thomas, Nougher, Gent, Hooper, Pemba, Gent (Murphy 59), Chambers (Wallace 65).

Harlow: Thompson, Glasgow, Eadie, Urquhart, Kendall, Toner, Small, Simms, Read (McKenzie 73), Smith, Stamp (Smith 90).

Essex Senior League

Ilford 3 Waltham Forest 2

Allan Fenn’s Foxes got a new era underway with success over league new boys Forest at Cricklefield Stadium.

Osei, Chris Stevens and Lockwood, from the penalty spot, all netted for the hosts as they claimed the points from a five-goal thriller against a visiting side relegated from Ryman One North last term.

And Fenn’s men will look to build on their opening-day triumph when they visit Basildon on Wednesday.
