Essex Senior Cup first round: Barking 5 Wivenhoe Town 3
Free-scoring Barking will face a trip to Stanway Rovers in the second round of Essex Senior Cup after coming through 5-3 against Wivenhoe Town last night at Mayesbrook Park.
The Blues, fresh from scoring five at the weekend in their victory against Eton Manor in the Essex Senior League, did so again against their Eastern Counties Premier Division opponents.
Ben Turner, fresh from scoring a hat-trick in that win, opened the scoring with 13 minutes on the clock when heading home Theo Ola’s cross.
James Butler made it two with a fine 30-yard effort to put Mick O’Shea’s side well in the ascendancy before with Ola again involved as he played in Ricky Mackin who in turn found Ben O’Brien to supply the finish and a 3-0 lead at the break.
Normal service continued after the break Dumebi GB-Dumaka scored a fine individual goal past goalkeeper Aaron Reid, and Turner added his second and the fifth on 56 minutes when converting Ola’s corner.
Wivenhoe did manage to make the score respectable adding three goals inside in the final 20 minutes as Luke Goldie-McSortey pulled one back after 68 minutes and with quarter of an hour remiaing Josh Grimes slotted into the bottom corner.
And they completed the scoring with a late third in stoppage time when Goldie-Sortey tapped in after lobbing Barking’s goalkeeper.
O’Shea’s charges will be hoping to enjoy another victory in the Cup competitions when they travel to Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Cup Preliminary Round fixture on Saturday.
