Witham 4 Barkingside 0

Two goals apiece from Joe Sweeney and Anthony Amstead sent Barkingside to defeat at Spa Road last night.

Manager Matt Frew had seen his side rescue a point against fellow strugglers Wroxham three days earlier, thanks to a last-minute effort from Calvin Poku, but there was no such escape this time as the high-flying hosts proved too strong.

Kick-off was delayed until 8.15pm, but Sweeney opened the scoring midway through the first half and then doubled Witham’s leadon 55 minutes.

Amstead added the third on the hour – the 100th goal conceded by Barkingside this season – and completed the visitors’ misery nine minutes from time.

Frew’s men have now gone 14 matches without a win, since their November 30 triumph at Tilbury, and find themselves just one point above the relegation zone.

In-form Ware have six games in hand, though, and pressure is mounting at Oakside, where Barkingside host Needham Market tomorrow.

Witham: Guest, Mead, Watson, Townrow, Murfet, Stevens, Emmanuel (Lopes 43), White, Amstead, Sweeney, Newby (Wraight 74). Unused subs: Green, Pedulu, Godbold.

Barkingside: Clark, Hayes, Davie, Ellul, Ellis, Onireti, Fontaine (Callaway 58), Waldron, Liddiard, Gulfer, Francis. Unused subs: Carvell, Poku, Corrall-Cooper, Matthews.

Tilbury 2 Redbridge 0

Former Redbridge striker Jack West netted twice to down his old club at St Chad’s Road last night.

Motormen went into the match unbeaten in their previous four outings, having held high-flying Heybridge Swifts to a 1-1 draw two nights earlier thanks to Dean Driscoll’s late penalty save.

The visitors included 10 former Dockers in their starting line-up but fell behind seven minutes before the break when West netted his first goal of the night.

West’s second clinching goal arrived nine minutes into the second half and he was one of four Tilbury players booked on the night.

Motormen could not find a response and defeat sent them slipping to 16th place in the table ahead of their trip to Dereham tomorrow.

Tilbury: Marrable, Blackman, Waters, Pooley, S West, Christou, Babalola (Owen 90), J West, Wixon (Johnson 86), Cutler, Obersteller (Aldwinckle 83). Unused sub: Warren.

Redbridge: Driscoll, Bansende, Worrell, Good, T Thomas, D Smith, Thompson, Carlile, K Smith, Francis, Aiken. Unused subs: Parish, Dobson, Bradbury, Cook.
