England Futsal team member Jonathan Kurrant hoping they will learn a lot from friendlies against Turkey at Barking’s SportHouse venue.
Redbridge’s Jonathan Kurrant believes the England Futsal team’s weekend’s double-header with Turkey is the perfect preparation for the European Championship qualifiers next month, writes Colin Munford.
Former Redbridge School pupil Kurrant was part of a history-making Futsal team which reached the main qualifiers for the first time at the end of last month with preliminary qualifying wins over hosts Lithuania and Cyprus.
They will now face Slovenia, Ukraine and hosts Turkey in the main qualifiers at the end of March, and Kurrant believes a lot can be gauged from the friendlies tomorrow (Friday, 7.45pm) and Saturday (3pm) at Barking’s SportHouse venue.
Kurrant, who grew up in Falmouth Gardens, Redbridge, said: “These friendlies were organised before the preliminaries and we’ll be coming up against Turkey in a month or so in the qualifiers so to have these two friendlies will be interesting.
“This weekend we are without one of our better players in William Wallace, who plays out in Spain and couldn’t get the time off, but we will give it our best shot and see where it goes.
“We know the main qualifiers will be tough with Ukraine ranked eighth in the world and Slovenia in 21st, but we have beaten teams around the 40-50 mark. It’s definitely doable.”
