Farid El Alagui was the hero for Falkirk against the Scottish giants and looks to start on the right foot against Walsall
Brentford striker Farid El Alagui is hoping to repeat his experience at Falkirk as the Bees’ Capital One Cup campaign begins at Walsall on Saturday.
The 27-year-old was Falkirk’s hero when they beat Rangers in the Scottish League Cup last season and also scored in the penalty shoot-out win over Dundee United.
The dream died when they bowed out to SPL champions, Celtic at Hampden Park but El Alagui is looking to repeat this with Brentford.
“I was lucky to have some good games in Scotland in the cup,” he told London24. “That is behind me now.
“Last season was last season and I’m looking forward to this season and start a new page here.
“I think the cup is like a bonus for players.
“The league is a long long way through the season and the cup gives you a fresh thing.
“We were lucky to play Rangers, Dundee United before playing Celtic at Hampden Park so the cup gives you this opportunity.”
It was only two years ago when the Bees stunned Premier League giants Everton on penalties and nearly repeated the trick against Birmingham in normal time before being denied by Kevin Phillips as the Midlands side eventually triumphed from the shoot-out and the striker wants the chance to do this with Brentford.
“I want us to go as far as we can,” he added.
“I really want to play big big teams from the Premier League and try and show them who is Brentford.”
