Trialists Alan Connell and Jon Paul-Pittman will join Daggers on their pre-season trip to Spain today (Thursday) as boss Wayne Burnett mulls over his striking options.
The Victoria Road chief has been keen to boost his forward department with only injured Rhys Murphy and Academy graduate Jon Nouble currently contracted with the club.
Connell and Pittman both featured in the 1-0 win against Bromley in their pre-season opener on Saturday, while the duo also took part in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss at Maidstone.
The trip to Spain will give Burnett the chance to take an extended look at the duo, while he also tries to blend in his eight summer signings to date.
Defender Matt Partridge and midfielder Joss Labadie signed on Tuesday following their releases from Reading and Torquay United respectively.
“There’s 22 players going so everyone will be there, one or two trialists as well so we’ll have another closer look at them over the next three or four days,” said Burnett.
“I think it’s key that we have managed to get this trip because we’ve signed eight new players and we’ve got another two or three that we are going to sign. I think it will be great for the group as everyone can get to know each other a little better.
“We haven’t done it previously because of the financial aspect, but we have managed to secure some funding for it and it’s great that we have got the opportunity to go.”
Another forward the Daggers boss has cast his eye over is the experienced Jamie Cureton. The 38-year-old was released by League Two rivals Cheltenham at the end of last season, despite scoring 11 goals.
Other trialists with Daggers include former Reading striker Gozie Ugwu, Southport’s David Fitzpatrick and Crystal Palace development team player Nabil Guedioura, who have also featured in the friendlies.
Daggers return from their trip to Spain on Monday ahead of their visit to Conference South newcomers Wealdstone the following day, where the quartet could get another chance.
