Dagenham & Redbridge striker Ben Strevens feels the Daggers are not “far off it” if they can string a run of results together.

Daggers striker Ben Strevens is hoping to help fire the club to the play-offs after completing his move on transfer deadline day last week.

The 32-year-old made the switch back to Victoria Road on a free transfer from Gillingham until the end of the season and went straight into the starting line-up in the goalless draw at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Strevens’ experience could be vital for the Daggers and the former Brentford man is aiming to push the club back up the League Two table after they slipped to 16th.

“It would be the dream scenario to make an impact straight away,” said Strevens.

“But I think we need to get a few good results back to back and then we can start thinking about the play-offs.

“I don’t think we are too far off it, but we need a few wins to get back up there again.”

Having joined Gillingham on a free transfer in the summer after his release from Wycombe Wanderers, Strevens failed to get the first-team opportunities he had hoped for.

And as soon as he knew boss Still was interested in bringing him back to the Daggers, his mind was soon made up.

“The gaffer has played a massive part, I wouldn’t be coming back if it wasn’t for John,” said Strevens.

“It’s been a frustrating time for me because I would have liked to have played more and I didn’t really get a chance to show what I could do which was frustrating.

“But at the same time they have brought a lad back there in a similar situation to me going back to his old club in Cody McDonald and he did really well there the last time.

“I think the time was right for me and they knew it was right that I had to come away and play some games.”
