Dagenham & Redbrridge midfielder Luke Howell knows if they can repeat that performance against the lesser teams then the Daggers should enjoy a good end to the season.

Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Luke Howell believes a lot of positives can be taken from Saturday’s performance at Gillingham despite a 2-1 defeat.

Leon Legge put the hosts in front before Femi Ilesanmi levelled after the break, but Deon Burton’s penalty saw the Gills take all three points.

And although the Daggers lost out, Howell feels it shows a lot of promise for the side between now and the end of the season.

“We are disappointed obviously but we aren’t that disappointed because whenever we have played the top teams we have played well,” said the 26-year-old.

“We got off to a bad start this season, lost a few early doors and it’s been hard to catch up from them but we know we are as good as the teams up the top.”

And the former Gillingham trainee knows that bodes well for this weekend, when they host AFC Wimbledon at Victoria Road.

“Like the gaffer said after the game if we just take that on to next week we’ll beat the majority of teams,” he added.

“It’s just the quality, even though we weren’t sure about the two decisions they still took the goals very well, the penalty and the finish.

“Against lesser opposition that might not happen so we’ll go on to next week and if we play the same way I think we’ll be alright.”
