Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett hopes Saturday’s blank was just a ‘one off’ after seeing his side spurn several good opportunities.

Chances fell to all three of Burnett’s most attacking players in Ade Azeez, Luke Norris and leading goalscorer Rhys Murphy, but all were unable to test Mansfield Town goalkeeper Alan Marriott, with the Stags stopper saving efforts at ease.

And while frustrated with the lack of ability to finish off some good moves, Burnett is glad that at least his side are creating the opportunities.

“On another day we could have been one or two goals to the good and they were probably the best set of chances we
had created in a while,” said Burnett.

“Luke, Rhys and Ade all had their chances and a couple of one-on-ones, but at least we are creating the chances. I’d be more worried if we weren’t.

“It’s a positive that we had so many opportunities. Hopefully now we can start turning them into goals again,”

Strong appeals for a penalty, when Azeez went down under the challenge from Colin Daniel in the box during the second half, were waved away, and
Burnett was extremely frustrated at the time.

“Initially I thought it was a penalty with his leg being taken away, but having seen it since I am not so convinced,” added Burnett.

“I’ve seen them given, but we can’t afford to rely on officials to win games, it should be on our performance.”

Burnett also confirmed striker Zavon Hines was unavailable for the encounter, while Jack Connors missed out through illness.
