Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett hailed the first half performance of Torquay United goalkeeper Michael Poke as the Daggers failed to score for just the second time in League Two this season.

The only other blunt performance came back at Mansfield Town back on August 31, and despite creating a number of chances, Poke and the Gulls back line kept the hosts at bay as they picked up a 1-0 win at Victoria Road thanks to Aaron Downes’ second half header.

“I felt we had lots of chances, probably more then we have created in the last couple of games,” said Burnett.

“Their goalkeeper has pulled off two or three decent saves in the first half but I just felt at times we made the wrong decisions around the box.

“We were having a touch when we should have been hitting it first time and as I said to the players, they can’t do anymore and on another day we may have been two or three up.”

However, it was another set piece and another header which the Daggers conceded from as Downes pounced five minutes into the second half.

And for the second weekend in succession Burnett was left frustrated at the indecision in their own box.

“I don’t think Chris Lewington was blocked, I thought he hesitated, he came and then checked back and the guy has headed it in the middle of the goal,” he added.

“He’s got to be marked, again. It was the same thing last Saturday against Oxford and instead of getting a point at Oxford and a point here today we’ve got zero points. That’s the small margin between winning and losing I guess.”
