Portuguese central defender Ricardo Santos was released by the Daggers at the end of last season, but did feature in a pre-season game at Great Yarmouth

The 18-year-old failed to make a competitive first-team appearance for the Daggers, but was an unused substitute in the 2-1 win at Chesterfield last season under former boss John Still.

Following his release, he subsequently linked up with Ryman One North side Thurrock, who are managed by former Gillingham and Grays Athletic boss Mark Stimson.

Santos had helped Thurrock enjoy a solid start to the campaign, and they currently sit in 7th spot in the league.

His form for the Fleet reportedly caught the attention of Premier League and Football League clubs, and Posh moved quickly to secure his signature on a three-and-half-year deal earlier today.

‘I like to think I can bring a physical side to the team, I am 6”5 and I still think I am growing,” Santos told Peterborough United’s website.

“I am really pleased to be at Peterborough, I know a few of the lads already and the club is very ambitious. I am pleased to be here.”

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson also told the Peterborough website: ‘He came to our attention through the Thurrock manager Mark Stimson, someone we have a good relationship with and he came in and trained with us on Monday. He played against St. Neots and did well. He is a great size, but he has good feet, looks after the ball fine.

“He is one for the future, but one that we know that a lot of clubs were looking at. Potentially, we feel he is a good signing for the football club.”
