Many of Abu Ogogo’s goals this season have been off his foot, his shin and ankle – but his equaliser in the 1-1 draw attable-toppers Chesterfield on Sunday was something of real quality.

And though he would have happily taken another scrappy one, former Arsenal youngster Ogogo was delighted to make the telling contribution once again as he shifted the ball on to his right foot and curled an unstoppable effort past Spireites goalkeeper Tommy Lee.

“Last time I scored it was Cheltenham at home, so I was due one,” said Ogogo. “I would have taken a tap in to be fair, but to score a goal like that I’m over the moon.

“Before the game I would’ve settled for a point. Considering how well we played against 10 men it’s disappointing we didn’t take the three points.

“We came here on the back of three defeats, they are top of the league and we knew we couldn’t afford to lose another game.

“I thought we played really well, it was unfortunate that we didn’t have the three points, but we will take the point and move on.”

Manager Burnett made three changes from the team which had disappointingly lost 1-0 at Portsmouth on Boxing Day, with Sean Shields earning his first league start for the club, as fellow youngster Jack Connors was also introduced.

And the Daggers skipper was full of praise for how the young duo coped against the League Two leaders.

“Both of them played very well,” he added. “Jack is improving all the time and he has always been good on the ball, but he’s improving defensively in his position.

“And as for ‘Shieldsy’, we all know the ability he has got, he has showed that in training and to play like that on his first start against a team like this away from home shows how good he is.

“It also shows the gaffer has got faith in him and trusts him to do well, and he didn’t disappoint.”
