Dagenham & Redbridge have been drawn away to League Two rivals and last season’s beaten finalists Southend United in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Wayne Burnett’s side secured their place in the draw with a 4-1 come-from-behind win against the 10 men of Colchester United on Tuesday at Victoria Road.
Brian Wilson had put the U’s in front with a first half free-kick, but Medy Elito’s header levelled the scores up after the break.
Former Dagger Magnus Okuonghae was then given his marching orders for a second bookable offence and minutes later Brian Saah tapped home his first goal for the club.
And they went on to seal a comfortable win with skipper Abu Oogo and Louis Dennis on target.
The Daggers met Phil Brown’s side in this stage of the competition last year and were beaten 2-0 after goals from Ryan Cresswell and Britt Assombalonga,
The fixture will be played the week beginning October 7
