League Two: Plymouth Argyle 0 Dagenham & Redbridge 0
Daggers brought to an end a run of two successive defeats with a solid point at Plymouth with a goalless draw.
Ben Strevens was brought straight into the starting line-up after arriving at the club on transfer deadline day from fellow League Two side Gillingham.
And it was a bright start from John Still’s visitors as Doe headed over a Saunders corner and Luke Howell ghosted into the box unmarked only to see his header fall wide of the target.
Howell continued to be in the thick of the action and saw a further effort well pushed away by Pilgrims goalkeeper Jake Cole.
But while Howell had missed a good chance for the Daggers, Reuben Reid did exactly the same for the hosts as the ball was pulled back to the striker only for his effort to hit his standing foot and saved by Lewington.
The hosts came more and more into the game and Ronan Murray saw a shot smash the crossbar after new loan signing Jason Banton’s ball into the box.
With five minutes of the opening half left Howell launched a counter attack before releasing Williams who drifted inside and shot wide of the goal before Howe flicked a header wide and Lewington blocked from Banton.
The second half really failed to ignite besides a strong start from the hosts with Plymouth skipper Conor Hourihane breaking through the Daggers backline only to see a shot parried behind for a corner from Lewington.
And from the resulting dead ball, Murray’s corner found the head of Reid but Femi Ilesanmi was the man on the line for John Still’s line to clear the danger.
Still reverted skipper Abu Ogogo to a midfield role after bringing on Gavin Hoyte for Saunders at the midway point but there was little goalmouth action to excite any of the 6,234 in the crowd.
And in added time Luke Wilkinson won the ball just in the Plymouth half and his long range shot was easily saved by Cole.
Plymouth had a great chance to take all three points even later though when the ball found substitute Matt Lecointe but his effort across goal was just wide with Lewington at full stretch.
Dagenham & Redbridge: Lewington, Ilesanmi, Doe, Wilkinson, Ogogo, Bingham (Woodall 89), Saunders (Hoyte 66), Howell, Elito, Williams, Strevens.
Unused substitutes: Reed, Maher, Caprice, Dennis, Seabright.
Attendance: 6,234 (84 Daggers fans)
