Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett is happy with the deal the club have got for wantaway defender Luke Wilkinson after he joined League Two rivals Luton Town – and former manager John Still.
Wilkinson, 22, expressed a desire to leave Victoria Road in the summer after falling down the pecking order following a series of injuries, poor form and the emergence of Ian Gayle.
The 2013 Player of the Year has signed a one-year deal with League Two new boys Luton and links up again with former boss Still, who brought him to Daggers in 2010 after his release from Portsmouth.
And Burnett believes the deal the club agreed with the Hatters is a good one for all parties involved.
“I think we’ve got a good deal for him,” he said. “You have to remember he was in the last year of his current contract. We can now all move on and I wish him well at Luton. He wanted a fresh start and that is what he’s got now.”
Burnett will not get any of the fee to use on his current squad, but having Wilkinson off the wage bill has freed up some money for the boss to invest straight away.
