Tonight will be a chance for some of the Daggers squad to shine as they take on Colchester United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Victoria Road.
Wayne Burnett’s side go into the game, a 7pm kick-off, on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Mansfield Town on Saturday in the league, and there may have already been ideas of changing the squad before that result.
But after the showing at Field Mill at the weekend, Burnett insists a few more then planned will get their chance to impress against League One opposition.
“I’m delighted that we have got a game on Tuesday,” said Burnett after Saturday’s defeat. “That’s the beauty of this game that they do come thick and fast.
“You have an opportunity to rectify the performances but unfortunately that won’t be the case for some of them as some of them won’t be playing on Tuesday.”
Afolabi Obafemi showed promising signs off the bench at Mansfield and may well feature, while one or two others will get an opportunity to show Burnett what they have to offer.
Unlike league games, teams can only field five substitutes and the tie will be decided by penalties if it finishes level after 90 minutes.
