League Two preview: Hartlepool United v Dagenham & Redbridge
Daggers boss Wayne Burnett admits it would be a relief is his side finally got their League Two season up and running at Hartlepool United tonight.
Both sides are yet to pick up a point so far this term and currently prop up the league going into the meeting at Victoria Park.
And while pleased with the majority of Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Burton Albion, Burnett knows his side can ill afford to be slack at the back once again.
“Both of us have yet to pick up a point so the pressure is on us both,” said Burnett.
“We should have registered three at the weekend but for a lack of concentration latre on, however, we have got to put that behind us and focus on tonight.
“The performance needs to be better but most importantly we need to get up and running as we need to start building some momentum up.”
Daggers will once again be without defender Damian Batt because of an adductor problem and he joins long-term absentees Rhys Murphy (hip), Zavon Hines (knee) and Billy Bingham (shins) on the treatment table.
“He’s got a bit of an abductor problem so that he couldn’t travel. We aren’t sure of a time frame yet, we’ll have to look and see how quickly he can recover. We need him back.”
New striker Christian Doidge has received international clearance and could feature against the Pools.
The 21-year-old joined last Friday on a two-year deal and travelled to Burton Albion with the squad to help settle in, and even if he isn’t included in the matchday squad tonight, he’s likely to make the trip to Victoria Park.
For Colin Cooper’s hosts, it remains to be seen whether striker Luke James will feature, having submitted a transfer request after reported interest from Peterborough United.
The Pools squad also picked up a few minor niggles in their 2-0 loss to Bury at the weekend and Cooper was waiting to assess the extent of those injuries.
Stuart Parnaby came off against the Shakers with a foot injury, with Ryan Brobbel in contention if the former Middlesbrough man cannot recover in time to feature.
