Daggers assistant manager Warren Hackett was delighted they picked up their first home win of the campaign with a 2-0 success over Mansfield Town.

For the second game in succession it was goals from Luke Howell and Abu Ogogo which inflicted defeat on a below-par Stags.

And after the struggles they had at home after the turn of the year last season, winning just twice, Hackett hopes this can be the start of a something special at Victoria Road.

“Since the gaffer has taken over we have won very few games at home and we want to turn this place into a fortress,” said Hackett, with boss Wayne Burnett absent through personal reasons.

“Teams make it very hard when they come here, they defend deep and we have to be patient with the ball. That was the case against Mansfield but we opened them up at will.”

Daggers looked particularly effective down the right with young right back Matt Partridge linking up with Ashley Chambers particularly well throughout the match.

And while keen to praise Partridge, Hackett also commended the performance of skipper Ogogo, who he feels will secure a double figure goal tally this season, after his nine last term.

“Partridge and Chambers were excellent down the right, if we can get that working on the other side we’ll be a threat to any team,” he added.

“Matt has come in and done fantastically. He’s only played a few league games and he looks like he has been in the team for years. His passing and decision making was superb.

“Abu will get in double figures this season, he’s disappointed that he didn’t reach that last season but the way he goes in and leads the team is brilliant.”

Hackett thought the Daggers dominated from the very start yesterday, and despite the physicality of the Stags, was pleased they managed to negate that threat.

“It was a great performance from the boys from start to finish,” he said.

“We knew Mansfield were going to be strong and very organised but I thought we dealt with all their aerial threats and we were able to impose our passing game on them.

“Mansfield are a very direct team so they are going to have certain percentages in our final third but we dealt with that and when we had the opportunity to play the ball around we did and we created quite a few chances.”

“We didn’t get off to the greatest of starts but we still had spells in the first game against Morecambe and the others against Brentford and Burton where we played some great football. But we seem to be getting the all-round 90 minute performance which is why we are winning games now.”
