Cureton hopes it’s second time lucky for Daggers on travels at Hartlepool

Dagenham & Redbridge striker Jamie Cureton insists they must banish the thoughts of Saturday’s disappointment at Burton Albion and pick up the three points at fellow strugglers Hartlepool United tonight.

The Daggers let a 1-0 lead slip six minutes from time as Billy Kee, who yesterday joined Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee, scored twice to pick up the win for the Brewers.

And though the manner of the defeat hit home hard as the Daggers remained bottom of League Two, Cureton insists they can bounce back from Saturday’s heartbreak at Victoria Park against the side immediately above them in the table.

“It’s another away game and to be fair maybe we would have taken four points from the two away games,” said Cureton.

“We have to push again because we have got to try and get some points on the board. We should really have three points and gone into the next away game flying.

“But we have got to pick ourselves up again. We performed a hell of a lot better than we did in the first game of the season, but it is about results.

“No matter how well you play, if you are not winning games, it is pointless. We’ll work again on the training ground and try and cut out the mistakes we have had in the last few games and go again.”

And while it’s not gone quite to plan for the Daggers team on the pitch, the summer signing has already been in the goals.

Having scored in last Tuesday’s 12-goal Capital One Cup thriller, the former Cheltenham Town striker followed that with the opener at the Pirelli Stadium at the weekend.

And the 38-year-old hopes to extend his purple patch at Victoria Park tonight.

“You want to get your goals on the board early at a new club,” he added.

“Getting one in the cup in the week and again at Burton is good for me. That’s what I want to do, that’s why I am in the team and that’s what people expect.

“I am on a little role at the moment so hopefully I can keep producing goals and as a group we can start winning games.

“I’m a very happy man if I am scoring and we are winning but it’s not great scoring and losing.

“The result is key but I’ll keep going. I’ll keep putting myself out there trying to score and do my best to get three points for Dagenham every week.

“If we just fine tune little bits here and there we’ll all have a good year.”
