New Daggers striker Jamie Cureton has set himself a target of 20 goals this season as he looks to help push the club on.

The 38-year-old signed a one-year deal at Victoria Road last Thursday having spent a number of weeks on trial and the experienced frontman wants to hit the ground running.

“Normally if I play a certain amount of games I end up with one goal in every two games so hopefully I can have a good season and push towards the 20-goal mark,” said Cureton.

“It puts pressure on me, but I put pressure on myself all the time. The first goal is always the target at a new club as you want to get that out of the way and then kick on.”

Cureton was released by League Two rivals Cheltenham Town at the end of last season, only to be offered a deal with the Robins two months down the line.

However, he opted to continue his trial with the Daggers, and though moving back to the family home in Essex is ideal, it wasn’t the only reason why he signed for the club.

“All of a sudden I got an offer from Cheltenham so it threw a bit of a spanner in the works,” he added.

“I thought if I don’t get nothing here and I turn down Cheltenham I am in a bit of trouble, but I was confident I could do enough to earn a contract.

“Thankfully I did and I have got the deal that I want.

“I wouldn’t have signed just for the sake of it and because my missus was here.

“If I didn’t feel it was right then I wouldn’t have taken it, but I have been really impressed by everyone.

“Once the offer was there it was quite an easy decision to be honest and now it’s a case of getting my head down and getting in the team and having a good year.”

Whenever a new signing comes into a club, it sometimes takes a bit of time to acclimatise.

However, having spent a long spell on trial with the Daggers, Cureton already feels at home.

“Normally you sign and turn up and don’t know anyone but I suppose the club had a look at me and I had a look at them,” said Cureton.

“Thankfully the club wanted to keep me and in that time I have really enjoyed it. I’ve got on well with the everyone and the style of play.

“The attitude of everyone has been real good so I have been very impressed and I am thankful to be a part of it.”
