Daggers boss Wayne Burnett was ‘incredibly frustrated’ as his side grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory at Burton Albion.

Jamie Cureton gave them a first half lead, before substitute Billy Kee did the business once again against the Victoria Road side as scored twice in the last six minutes, one coming from the penalty spot, to seal what had looked like an unlikely win for the Brewers.

And Burnett lamented his side’s defending in the closing stages, especially with Kee’s late winner.

“I am incredibly frustrated that we can’t be better as a group at certain points of the game,” said Burnett. “It’s decision making, you make the wrong ones and you can be punished.

“But the second goal is an absolute joke from us defensively. We’ve allowed someone to have a touch, turn in our box and shoot at goal.

“If you allow that to happen you are going to concede goals. I won’t allow that to happen, it’s unacceptable and we have to better. The fans have travelled all this way to watch that.”

Having had the benefit of looking back at the penalty incident, where Luke Howell was adjudged to have tripped substitute Marcus Harness, Burnett was disappointed it had been given.

However, he did feel Howell shouldn’t have attempted such a tackle.

“I don’t think the first goal is a penalty,” he added.

“He won the ball quite clearly but the referee doesn’t have the benefit like I do where I can watch it afterwards and make a clear decision. But does he need to go to ground in the box? I don’t think he does.”

Although aware his side had sat back too much in the second half, Burnett had been pleased with their performance

“We probably edged it slightly in the first half but it wasn’t so good in the second half,” he remarked. “A bit of an onslaught came at us and they put some pressure on but we have to do better.

“We wasn’t in any danger in the first half at all, we felt we were quite comfortable.

“We probably did sit back a bit too much in the second half. They put a lot of pressure on us.

“They changed their shape slightly and we should have maybe changed a bit earlier.”
