Paul Benson has taken in a number of clubs since departing Victoria Road, but will never rule out a permanent return to the club where he made his name.

The 33-year-old has spent spells at four different clubs since leaving the Daggers for Charlton in August 2010 and

admits he has been frustrated by that, but knows it would always be difficult to eclipse his achievements at Victoria Road.

“I’m disappointed, my idea after leaving was to go and try to progress and get some success at League One, but that has never materialised,” said Benson ahead of his visit to Daggers with Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

“My first season at Charlton was good, but unfortunately we lost the manager and I moved on to Swindon where I also enjoyed the first year.

“I have had a loan at Portsmouth and now at Cheltenham, but I always said it would be difficult to eclipse the success I had there (Dagenham).”

And Benson admits he hasn’t ruled out making a return before hanging up his boots.

“You always have those thoughts about going back, trying to replicate what you have done,” he added.

“You never know, though. After this season I have a year left on my contract at Swindon and if it is a viable option for both parties who knows? I would never say never because of the great time I had there.

“I will always be thankful for the club and the fans for my time at the club and Strevs has done exactly that in retuirning and I wish him all the best.”
