Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson is overconfident after signing Robin van Persie.

The Manchester United boss compared his current strikers, Wayne Rooney, van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck to the treble-winning class of 1999 – Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Wenger said: “Alex Ferguson is a bit too confident when he says 1999, but of course it increases their potential offensively because they got a world-class players.

“However, they also have a number of players - like Hernandez and Wellbeck - who have a restricted chance to play.”
