Latest news from the Essex FA
The Football Association has given permission for individuals to play up an age group during 2013/14, regardless of competition or format.
The Essex FA is communicating this amendment to the rules for the upcoming season to all clubs and Leagues at youth level, with the following regulations taking immediate effect:
* Under 7s can now play up to Under 8s
* Under 8s can continue to play up to Under 9s (this has not changed)
* Under 9s can now play up to Under 10s
* Under 10s can now play up to Under 11s
* Under 11s can now play up to Under 12s
From Under 12s upwards, players are allowed to play up one age group as they have done previously.
It will not be permitted for an entire team to play up an age group as this ruling has been introduced to assist those children who would previously have been excluded from playing and not to allow a team to play in a preferred format to the one that has been set out.
Any club that wishes to register an individual at a new age group should contact their League Registration Secretary to notify them of the change.
The Essex FA is aware that Leagues will already have agreed their constitutions for the new season, and hopes that this will not impact on the arrangements that have been made.
The Essex FA has previously given assistance in this regard, and Leagues that have followed these well-communicated policy guidelines should be able to accommodate the vast majority of players within the formats agreed by The FA.
