Pupil lands university place in United States

Forest School pupil Ashleigh Greenham has taken up the offer of a full golfing scholarship to study at Arizona State University in the United States next year.

The year 12 pupil, who has already represented her club, county and country, and plays off a handicap of two, had five offers in total from a host of different American universities.

They included offers from Mississippi State and the University of South Carolina — and all of them were on full scholarship terms.

Greenham eventually opted for Arizona State as it ranks as one of the top 80 universities in the world.

It is also seen as one of the best places for a young golfer to develop their game.

And the talented Greenham could not contain her excitement when finding out the news.

She said: “After getting off the phone with my new coach, who had just made me the offer, I was shaking and couldn’t sleep that night — such was my excitement.

“Arizona State ticks every box — golfing, academic and, of course, the weather.

“I just want to fast-forward to next year!”

The scholarship means Greenham’s fees, books, board, food and golfing equipment will all be paid for.

Greenham has already been in contact with her fellow team-mates and will begin her studies at Arizona State University in September 2014.
