Rugby youngsters battle well in Ruislip
Woodford under-13s remained unbeaten in two fixtures against rivals Ruislip last weekend.
The A team secured a 26-15 victory, while the B’s staged an incredible comeback to tie their game 26-26.
Winger Jamie Ali opened the scoring for Woodford A, after a fine solo run and Michael Batt added the extras.
Alex Marks caught the kick-off and fed Tom Mead who kicked Woodford in to the Ruislip 22 for a line-out, which led to Jed West running in the second score under the posts. Again Batt converted.
Ruislip hit back with scores either side of half-time, before Bailey Francis touched down for Woodford to regain the momentum. Batt continued his 100 per cent conversion success rate.
The west Londoners scored next, but Marks touched down in the corner with five minutes remaining to seal the win.
Woodford B trailed 19-0 early on in their game, as Ruislip B rattled up three tries, with two converted.
But Woodford soon changed their approach to play with more control and Will Carey linked with man-of-the-match Francis, who set off round the outside to score and launch the comeback.
The Carey and Francis combination soon worked again with another score for Francis, which Matt Bastick converted before half-time.
The second half continued at a frenetic pace, with Zac Cannon, Rhys Phillips and Max Venditti ensuring Woodford retained the momentum.
Carey linked on to an inside pass to score under the posts, then repeated the score to give Woodford a seven-point lead.
Ruislip scored late on under the posts to claim a share of the spoils.
