Highams outfit lost on Saturday, but scored joint-most points of the campaign

Woodford will be without James Baxandall and Johnnie Smith for this weekend’s long trip to North Walsham, but coach Andy Murphy remains positive.

Letchworth Garden City ran out 44-20 winners at Highams on Saturday, but there were some encouraging signs for the hosts.

Red cards to Baxandall and Smith have ruled them out of the London One North clash with the Vikings this weekend, but Murphy said: “We have an issue with two players being banned, but we are looking good going up other than that.

“We have a pretty strong squad and want another performance.”

Woodford beat Walsham 13-10 in October, but Murphy expects to face a different team in Norfolk on Saturday.

He added: “They had players out before and we capitalised. North Walsham have had some good results over the last couple of weeks, but we have to approach it the same way we have over the last few weeks.

“We will look at integrating the backs again more. We have to try and use the backs with the forwards and integrate them together as a team, because it is still a bit disjointed.”

Despite that, Woodford gave one of their best displays of the season last weekend.

Joss Ferrari, Charlie Simpson and Alf Curness scored tries to keep Woodford in the match before Letchworth secured the win with some late scores.

Murphy added: “The scoreline did flatter them because we were in the game for most of it. The difference was when we had injuries we didn’t have the strength in depth they have.

“It is good we managed to get 20 points on the board and it was forward dominated, but we had some good stuff from the backs as well.

The boys are recognising under the sticks what teams are doing against us too, rather than waiting for the training session on the Tuesday to be told, so that is good.”
